Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Rome to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine and the path toward a sustainable peace.
During the meeting, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine remains open to genuine diplomatic efforts, while expressing frustration with recent talks in Istanbul, where Russia sent only low-level representatives lacking decision-making authority.
“I reaffirmed that Ukraine is ready to be engaged in real diplomacy and underscored the importance of a full and unconditional ceasefire as soon as possible,” Zelenskyy stated.
The leaders also discussed tightening sanctions against Russia, strengthening bilateral trade and defense cooperation, the battlefield situation, and an upcoming prisoner exchange.
Zelenskyy stressed the need for sustained pressure on Moscow until it becomes willing to end the war, adding:
“Pressure is needed against Russia until they are eager to stop the war. And, of course, we talked about our joint steps to achieve a just and durable peace.”
He concluded by thanking the American people for their continued support:
“Thank you to all American people for the support and leadership in saving lives.”
