At least 16 people have been killed and 35 injured after a Russian airstrike struck a penal colony in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region overnight, Ukrainian officials confirmed on Tuesday. Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, said Russia used what is believed to be eight guided bombs in the attack, one of which hit the correctional facility. “The building was destroyed and surrounding private homes were also damaged,” Fedorov reported. “All of the injured are receiving the necessary medical care.” The head of Ukraine’s Presidential Administration, Andriy Yermak, condemned the attack as another war crime committed by Russia. “This is yet another war crime by Russia that will not stop unless it is forced to,” Yermak said. “The Putin regime, which even threatens the United States through its proxies, must face economic and military blows that strip it of the capacity to wage war. As long as Putin is building up a military-industrial complex and drawing in countries like North Korea, the threat of war in Europe remains very real.”
