Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), has strongly criticized Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze for threatening to imprison President Salome Zourabichvili after her term ends on December 29.

“I wish to remind the @PM_Kobakhidze that his country is a member of the @coe. The direct threat he made today against @Zourabichvili_S to imprison her when her term of office expires on 29 December is unacceptable, contrary to the principles of democracy and the rule of law,” Rousopoulos wrote in X.

This comes in response to Kobakhidze’s controversial remarks during a press conference, where he suggested that Zourabichvili could face criminal charges if she refuses to leave the presidential residence after her term ends.
