Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law ratifying the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Iran. The document was published on April 21 on the Russian government’s legal information portal.
“To ratify the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran, signed in the city of Moscow on January 17, 2025,” the law states.
The agreement solidifies cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including politics, trade, economy, energy, transport, investment, infrastructure, security, and defense. It also outlines collaboration in education, culture, sports, healthcare, and information technology.
One of the key components of the treaty is a mutual commitment to non-assistance in case of external aggression. According to the agreement, if one party is attacked, the other must refrain from providing any form of military or supportive aid to the aggressor.
“The other party must not provide the aggressor with military or any other assistance that would support the continuation of its actions,” the treaty reads.
Additionally, Russia and Iran agreed to jointly develop international transport corridors through their territories, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and trade.
The Russian Federation Council ratified the treaty on April 16, clearing the way for final approval by the president.
