The US Embassy to Georgia on Monday said the 15th anniversary of the Russia-Georgia war was “doubly heavy” due to the landslide killing 18 in western Georgia and leaving 17 missing.

The mission said it honored the memory of victims in the latest tragedy and commemorated the heroes of the war.

“Today, the United States’ flag is at half-mast in mourning for the victims of the Shovi tragedy”, the Embassy said.

The landslide hit the Shovi resort in Oni municipality of Racha region on Thursday.
