The Russian authorities are not going to release opposition leader Alexei Navalny at the request of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). His decision allows not to comply with the Constitution of the Russian Federation.

This was stated by the vice-speaker of the Russian State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy, reports Tass.ru.

According to him, the constitution allows the government to ignore the decision of the ECHR as politicized and contrary to the basic law of the Russian Federation.

"If such a decision follows, then, of course, the Russian Federation will not comply with it. The constitution also contains a rule that says that the country's international obligations are being fulfilled, but at the same time politicized interpretations of international bodies, such as the ECHR, in relation to the country," – said Tolstoy.

Earlier it was reported that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) requires the Russian Federation to immediately release opposition leader Alexei Navalny. In this case, the court is guided by an emergency rule, which is rarely applied.
