Russian actor Vitaliy Gogunskiy, who supported Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine last year, has been denied entry to Georgia, Telegram channel Mash reported on Wednesday, releasing a video depicting the actor’s return back to Russia.
The authors of the video claimed the actor, who became famous for his role in the TV series Univer, had been brought to the plane at the Tbilisi airport by a border escort, pointing to a “political agenda”.
Gogunskiy told journalists he was flying to Tbilisi with his girlfriend and was returned back as the Georgian Government was “afraid” of the opposition’s reaction.
“They said [my arrival] would cause a turmoil”, he claimed, urging Russian citizens to relax in their country, adding that “Russian people, unlike many other nations, are tolerant and help everyone. There is nothing special in other countries that is not in Russia”.
According to the portal 5-tv.ru, the actor has recently visited Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region in violation of the Georgian law on occupied territories.
A border guard makes a decision whether to allow a foreign national into the country at the country’s border.
