Russia’s ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreev was splattered by red paint thrown at him on Monday in Warsaw by demonstrators protesting Russia’s war in Ukraine, preventing him from paying tribute to Red Army soldiers fallen during World War II.

Andreev arrived to the site to lay flowers on Victory Day, which marks the defeat of Nazi Germany by the Allies.

The Russian diplomat was met by hundreds of activists opposed to Russia’s war in Ukraine, throwing red paint at him and others accompanying him.

The protesters carried Ukrainian flags and chanted “fascist” and “murderer” at him.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. Hostilities have been in progress since then.

Poland has received the majority of Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war.
