The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency has allowed 284 weekly flights from Russian cities to Georgia, according to a document published on its website on Wednesday.
A larger part of permits came to Red Wings airlines, while Tbilisi has not accepted the flights so far.
Following Russia’s move in May to lift visa and travel restrictions with Georgia on the backdrop of its ongoing aggression against Ukraine, Russian Azimuth Airlines and the Tbilisi-based Georgian Airways have received permits for operating direct flights.
The document said the Russian agency had refused the increase in Azimuth flights from seven flights per week to 14.
The latest information on flights has caused large-scale turmoil among Georgian social media users, who expressed their concerns over the possible mass influx of Russian citizens.
Russia occupies 20 percent of the Georgian territories and has been engaged in creeping occupation over the years, following its invasion of Georgia in 2008.
