The State Security Service of Georgia on Tuesday said that the representatives of the Russian occupation forces illegally detained a Georgian citizen on the territory of the occupied Gali, in the north-west of the country.

The agency said that the detainee was returning to the Tbilisi-controlled Zugdidi municipality from Gali, when he was detained. “According to the information shared by the hotline, the illegally detained person had a package of drugs with him”, said the body.

It stated the hotline was ”immediately activated” over the incident.

“The co-chairs of the international discussions in Geneva and our international partners were informed about another serious violation by the occupying forces. Active efforts are being made to release all citizens of Georgia who are illegally detained in the occupied territories, using all mechanisms at the disposal of the central government. The occupying power bears full responsibility for the illegal detention of Georgian citizens”, said the agency.
