NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Tuesday warned that even member states not directly bordering Russia face increasing risks due to Moscow’s latest missile capabilities.
Speaking at a press conference in Luxembourg, Rutte said the threat from Russia was “growing daily” and cautioned allies against underestimating the danger.
“Let’s not be naive about this. It could one day affect Luxembourg and my country, the Netherlands. We may think we are far from Russia, but in reality we are very close — especially in the context of Russia’s latest missile technology,” Rutte said.
He stressed that the distance between cities such as Vilnius, Luxembourg, The Hague, or Madrid could now be just “five to ten minutes” - the time it would take a Russian missile to reach these areas.
Rutte said the threat is universal for NATO members, regardless of geography.
“We are all under direct threat from Russia. Today, we are all on the eastern flank, whether you live in London or Tallinn - it no longer makes a difference”, he added.
