Imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili says that his personal doctor Nikoloz Kipshidze has not been allowed to see him in Rustavi prison for five weeks despite his appeals for this, while a stylist was permitted on the first request.

Saakashvili, who attended a trial hearing in his own case related to illegal crossing from Ukraine into Georgia at the end of September 2021, says that his condition remains poor.

He stated that his personal doctor is not allowed to see him as the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili wants this.

Saakashvili has warned Ivanishvili not to do so, “otherwise you will receive negative consequences.’

The third president, who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1 of the last year after eight years in political exile.

He had plans to help the opposition remove the Georgian Dream government from power.

Currently he is serving his six-year term for abuse of power and faces five other charges.

Saakashvili was convicted in absentia in 2018.
