Temur Janashia, a member of the United National Movement opposition party, on Thursday said that the condition of the arrested former President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, was “extremely poor”, noting that “he is on the verge of death”.
“He gets tired very easily while speaking and looks extremely tired in general. The person is on the verge of death. He is lying down, he has a temperature of 38, blood pressure – 170, he cannot take food and medicine, he is in bed, weak”, said Janashia.
He stated that they talked “very little” as Sakashvili was unable to speak.
The third president of Georgia was arrested in Tbilisi last year after eight years in self-imposed political exile.
He claimed he returned to help the opposition change the government via elections. However, the Georgian Dream authorities claimed that he wished for a coup.
Saakashvili holds Ukrainian citizenship and held a public post there before being arrested in Tbilisi on several charges while in office, including abuse of authority.
