Saakashvili’s lawyer plans meeting with president when report on client’s health available

Shalva Khachapuridze, a lawyer of imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili, on Tuesday said that he had plans to meet President Salome Zourabichvili and discuss his client’s health once a report on the former president’s health is available. 

“When we have a conclusion, we will request a meeting with Mrs. Salome Zourabichvili, I was her lawyer and I know her quite closely. We will have a meeting, we will talk, in general, about this created situation and search for solutions. Let’s see if she agrees”, Khachapuridze stated. 

In response to the statement of the country’s justice minister over the toxicological examination on Saakashvili, following the claims of his another lawyer over poisoning, Khachapuridze said they would accept the move only with the involvement of foreign professionals. 

In her recent interview for BBC channel, Zourabichvili said that she had no plans to pardon Saakashvili, but noted that she did not want the former president to “die in prison” and supported his transportation abroad for treatment.
