Imprisoned former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has said to Russian human rights activist Mark Feygin that he is being tortured in detention in Georgia.

“Thank you very much for your solidarity, humanity and action, which is planned for January 4. The fourth president of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, it is true that the penitentiary system is torturing me to death in captivity”, Saakashvili said in his social media post in reference to Feygin and Ukrainian presidential adviser olekiy Arestovych.

“After Zelensky’s phenomenal address and your activism, I was banned from smoking and my children are no longer allowed with me. The court was postponed for10 days,”he said.

A trial hearing on granting Saakashvili’s release or the postponement of the rest of his sentence has been postponed to January 9.

The Georgian Dream authorities say Saakashvili is engaged in self harm to escape justice.
