Imprisoned former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, who says his health has deteriorated seriously and lacks quality medical care, has called on doctor MPs of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party to visit him at Rustavi Prison No.12  and make conclusions on his condition.

“I appeal to Davit Sergeenko, Dimitri Khundadze and all other members of parliament from any party who had taken the Hippocratic oath, to visit me not as a politician, but as a patient, and make their conclusions,” Saakashvili posted late on Wednesday.

“I’m not going to have any political discussions. We will talk about only my symptoms and only about the possibility to check my health and get an objective conclusion about my state of health,” Saakashvili noted.

Saakashvili’s lawyer and the family claim that the third president is “on the verge of death and is in urgent need to be hospitalized abroad.”

The Georgian Justice Ministry and the GD politicians say that the former president is provided with all needed services and that he himself refuses to receive some of them allegedly due to depression.

Saakashvili, who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1, 2021, a day before Georgian municipal elections, after eight years in political exile.

He claimed he returned to help the opposition take office “via elections,” while the GD says Saakashvili had plans to spark tension and overthrow the government.
