Japarov described Georgia as an important partner for Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has described Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze's official visit to Kyrgyzstan as a historic milestone in relations between the two countries.

Speaking at a joint briefing with Kobakhidze on Friday, Japarov expressed gratitude to the Georgian prime minister for accepting his invitation and making the first official visit to Kyrgyzstan by a Georgian prime minister.

"We consider the first official visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Kyrgyzstan a historic event," Japarov said.

He stressed the visit marks the first high-level official trip by a Georgian prime minister to Kyrgyzstan in the 34-year history of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Japarov described Georgia as an important partner for Kyrgyzstan and said bilateral ties are based on mutual trust, respect and longstanding cooperation.

He said talks between the two leaders were held in an open, friendly and constructive atmosphere and covered a broad range of issues on the bilateral agenda.

The discussions focused on political dialogue, trade and economic cooperation, investment opportunities, sectoral partnerships, as well as cultural and humanitarian ties.
