US explains temporary suspension of certain visa processing to Georgian foreign ministry

The ministry stressed that the measure does not apply to visas issued for other purposes

The United States has clarified the scope of a temporary suspension of certain visa processing during a meeting with Georgia’s Foreign Ministry, according to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The issue was discussed at a meeting between Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia and the US Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires in Georgia, Alan Purcell, which was held at the initiative of the American side.
During the meeting, the US side provided detailed information on a decision by the US State Department to temporarily halt the processing of specific categories of visas. According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, the Chargé d’Affaires explained that the suspension affects only immigrant visas and applies to citizens of more than 70 countries, including Georgia.
The ministry stressed that the measure does not apply to visas issued for other purposes.
Bilateral and multilateral issues, as well as ongoing regional developments, were also discussed during the meeting, the ministry said.
