Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has summoned the Estonian Ambassador Marge Mardisalu-Kahar following her social media statement regarding a Georgian university, stressing the remark constitutes an attempt to interfere in the country’s internal affairs.
The body added the Ambassador was invited to the Ministry for clarifications over her online post.
During the meeting with First Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgi Zurabashvili, the Georgian side requested an explanation of the purpose behind the Ambassador’s action.
“The first Deputy Minister underlined that the Estonian Ambassador’s statement aims to politicise the ongoing education reform, which is unacceptable and represents an attempt to interfere in the country’s internal affairs,” the Ministry said.
The Ambassador was also informed that if the Estonian side is interested in Georgia’s education reform, it can hold consultations with the relevant ministry to receive comprehensive information.
The issue followed the Ambassador’s social media post featuring a photo with Nino Doborjginidze, rector of Ilia State University, captioned: “We stand with Ilia State University.”
