Georgia’s under-17 women’s national football team secured a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Latvia in the UEFA European Championship qualifying round, marking an important win for the team led by head coach Tata Matveeva.
The match began energetically, though Latvia took an early lead in the 6th minute through Ekaterina Kharitonova. Georgia responded quickly when Niniko Chkhetiani equalized with a powerful and well-placed strike.
Georgia then went ahead after a shot by Lizi Kakulia slipped past the Latvian goalkeeper, putting the team up 2–1.
The second half proved just as tense. In the 60th minute, a defensive mistake by Georgia led to a penalty, which Latvia successfully converted to level the score at 2–2.
In the closing stages, Chkhetiani struck again, scoring her second goal of the match to restore Georgia’s lead. Latvia had no time to recover, and the final whistle sealed a 3–2 victory for the Georgian side.
With this win, Georgia’s U-17 team strengthened its position in Group B3 of the UEFA qualifying round. The team will play its next match on October 30 against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
