Georgia defeats France, reaches EuroBasket quarterfinals for first time

The Georgian national basketball team on Sunday achieved a historic milestone by defeating one of the tournament favourites, France, 80:70 in the EuroBasket Round of 16.

With the victory, Georgia advanced to the quarterfinals of the continental championship for the first time in its history.

The first half ended narrowly in Georgia’s favour, 38:37, before the team added another 42 points in the second half to secure the 80:70 win.

Georgia will face Finland in the quarterfinals on September 10 at 22:00 Tbilisi time.
