A case of dengue fever has been confirmed in Georgia, Ivane Chkhaidze, medical director of the Iashvili Central Children's Hospital said on Monday.

Chkhaidze said the virus was detected in one person last week but did not provide further details about the case.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions. The incubation period is typically between five and seven days, although it can vary in some cases.

Symptoms may include a sudden high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, chills and general weakness. In some patients, the illness can lead to more serious complications.

Speaking about Ebola, Chkhaidze said no cases have been recorded in Georgia and there is currently no risk of the virus spreading in the country.
