The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has announced the detention of six foreign nationals from Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Nepal, and Egypt during a joint operation conducted by the Migration Department and the Border Police.
According to the Ministry, the individuals were residing in Georgia without legal grounds, in violation of the country’s Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons. Authorities stated that the detainees had been abusing the asylum application timelines to remain in the country for extended periods unlawfully.
Despite being given an opportunity to leave Georgia voluntarily within the period set by deportation decisions, the individuals failed to comply. As a result, the Migration Department proceeded with their detention.
The detainees are currently being held at the Migration Department’s Temporary Accommodation Center, pending their return to their countries of origin.
