The US Defense Threat Reduction Agency has provided several dozen routers to Georgia's Operational-Technical Agency to support the development of a high-speed communications network across 35 border sectors.
The Operational-Technical Agency, which operates under Georgia's State Security Service, is continuing to install high-speed fibre-optic network infrastructure along various sections of the state border as part of efforts to improve border security.
Agency Director Beka Mamardashvili thanked David Kennedy, head of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency's Caucasus Regional Office, for the support and longstanding cooperation.
The Operational-Technical Agency has already installed fibre-optic network infrastructure along several sections of Georgia's state border as part of the project.
In February, the agency carried out a pilot installation of a backup satellite internet network at the Lekiskuri border sector, which it said significantly improved information management processes.
The agency is currently procuring several dozen additional satellite internet devices and related services to establish high-speed network connectivity across 35 border sectors, according to the State Security Service of Georgia.
