Opposition leader predicts EU sanctions following OSCE and Amnesty criticism

Salome Samadashvili, a leader of the Strong Georgia coalition, stated that harsh assessments by both Amnesty International and the OSCE regarding recent events in Georgia would likely prompt the EU to begin sanctions against the Georgian government.

“Not only Amnesty International but even the OSCE, which is traditionally very conservative in its evaluations, has issued scathing criticism of the violence and mass human rights violations that occurred in Georgia over the past two weeks. This will serve as the basis for the EU Foreign Affairs Council next week to initiate the process of sanctioning this repressive regime,” Samadashvili said.

Her remarks follow an Amnesty International report detailing police crackdowns on protests, suppression of journalists, and widespread rights violations, alongside the OSCE’s condemnation of the Georgian authorities’ handling of peaceful demonstrations.
