Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili met with participants of the Mothers’ March, who expressed their support for her amidst recent political developments.

Speaking to the gathered crowd, Zourabichvili thanked them and reiterated her commitment to continuing her duties as president.

“Thank you all, thank you to our youth. We are all mothers, and our children who stand here are fighting for this country’s future. We will stand with them until the end,” she said.

Responding to questions about the recent announcement of Mikheil Kavelashvili’s election by the Election College as Georgia’s sixth president, Zourabichvili dismissed the process, stating:

“No one has been elected. Nothing has happened. I continue my work—what else would I do?”

Earlier today, the Georgian Central Election Commission tallied the results of the presidential election, declaring Mikheil Kavelashvili, the sole candidate, as president-elect. Zourabichvili and the opposition don’t recognize the legitimacy of the Parliament and the newly elected president.
