In a statement shared on social media, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili commemorated the first anniversary of Georgia’s grant of EU candidate status, lamenting what she described as a missed opportunity for the nation.

Zourabichvili tweeted, “On this day last year Georgia was granted the EU Candidate status and it was a day of consensus, popular joy, and great emotions! For one year, the ruling one man/one party has been smashing this great opportunity and building a repressive authoritarian regime.”

Zourabichvili’s comments come amid heightened political unrest, recent protests, and growing criticism of the government’s approach to governance and European integration.
