Georgia’s fifth president, Salome Zourabichvili, has declared that Europe and Georgia are “inseparable,” emphasizing that the country’s identity, freedom, and peace are rooted in its European path.
“Europe and Georgia are inseparable. Our future is Europe, and our past is also Europe. Our existence, independence, freedom, and peace all depend on how closely we align with and are part of Europe," she stated.
She warned against political moves that isolate Georgia from the West, calling it “the greatest crime” any government could commit: “To leave this country alone, face-to-face with Russia, is an unforgivable betrayal.”
Responding to critics who suggest Europe is distancing itself from Georgia, Zourabichvili pushed back: “The current alienation we feel from Europe is not Europe’s fault. It is not due to Europe acting against us. Europe is for patriots – it is for those who defend their nation’s identity.”
