Salome Zourabichvili joins protesters, urges calm as Tbilisi cancels Christmas tree lighting

President Salome Zourabichvili arrived at the ongoing protest near the Georgian Parliament, addressing the gathered crowd with a message of peace and solidarity.

Zourabichvili reassured attendees that no provocations would take place and emphasized the importance of maintaining a calm and peaceful atmosphere.

“The Christmas tree lighting scheduled for this evening has been postponed…I wish you a peaceful evening. Let there be no provocations here tonight. The lighting of the Christmas tree will not happen this evening. Stay united and peaceful. I am here with you because I will not allow any provocation. I am with you, and you are in my heart,” Zourabichvili declared.

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze had initially planned to light the city’s main Christmas tree on Rustaveli Avenue on December 14. However, during a briefing earlier today, Kaladze announced the postponement, stating, “The Christmas tree lighting event will take place when the radical opposition no longer obstructs children’s celebrations.”
