Today in front of me stands free Georgia – President Zourabichvili calls for peaceful path to EU

In an emotional address today, President Salome Zourabichvili proclaimed that “a free Georgia” stands before her, as thousands gathered to support the nation’s European integration at the march Georgia Chooses EU.

Speaking to the crowd, Zourabichvili stressed that nothing is more valuable than freedom and peace, and praised the Georgian people’s commitment to entering Europe “peacefully, with dignity, and in a truly Georgian way.”

“This is one of those historic days that will be remembered by our children and grandchildren,” Zourabichvili said, celebrating the significance of the moment for Georgia’s future. She shared a personal note that her grandson, Gabriel, was born today, calling it a symbol of the new future awaiting the country.

“What I see before me is a free Georgia—free thanks to the efforts of our ancestors, and free thanks to all of you,” she noted.

The president highlighted that those present at the march were there voluntarily, without any pressure or coercion, making the day even more meaningful.

“No one here has been forced to come under the threat of losing their job or scholarship. What stands here today is a united Georgia, moving towards a better future,” she added.

Zourabichvili also addressed international figures, sending a message of support to Moldova’s President Maia Sandu, expressing hope for her success in the European referendum. She also sent words of encouragement to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, acknowledging Ukraine’s fight for freedom and pledging that both nations will enter Europe together.

Finally, the president turned her attention to Georgia’s international partners, promising that Georgia will be a strong and reliable ally for Europe.

“We will be the kind of allies you could never have imagined once we join the European Union. The future is clear—Georgia has won, and so has its future,” Zourabichvili stated.
