Georgia’s fifth President Salome Zourabichvili on Tuesday urged citizens to rally in the capital city of Tbilisi to defend the country’s European path, responding to the European Commission’s 2025 enlargement report.

Zourabichvili criticized the ruling Georgian Dream party, accusing it of pursuing “anti-Georgian, anti-European and pro-Russian” policies that, in her view, had led to the EU practically sidelining Georgia’s candidate status.

“The European Commission clearly detailed how, in all areas, the Georgian Dream has distanced the country from European principles, its path and its future. We cannot allow this. We will not accept the hijacking of the state and the squandering of this historic opportunity”, Zourabichvili said.

She called on the public to strengthen protests, unity and free elections, saying: “Everyone must come out and respond from Rustaveli! Let us once again make our European voice heard! We will not accept this!”
