In a recent post on X, President Salome Zourabichvili expressed trust in Georgia’s partners and their solidarity, referring specifically to the United States.
”Georgia trusts its partners and their support in their struggle for justice, freedom, and democracy. I, as the President of Georgia, count on your solidarity! On the 29 and thereafter… until new elections,” Zourabichvili stated.
Her post comes after a social media statement by Congressman Joe Wilson, warning Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of Georgia’s ruling party Georgian Dream, against taking actions that could harm Georgia’s democratic processes.
“President Trump has made it very clear where he stands on the self-professed enemies of America. If Bidzina Ivanishvili goes through with his plan to destroy Georgian democracy on Dec 29, he should expect a response like he’s never imagined.”
Wilson’s comments come amid growing tensions in Georgia as the country prepares for the presidential inauguration on December 29. Opposition leaders and civil society groups have accused Ivanishvili and his party of consolidating power and eroding democratic institutions. Together with thousands of protesters rallying for over a month, they have been requesting early elections and the release of the detained activists.
