Turkish national arrested at border with large quantity of drugs

The crime carries penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service have arrested a Turkish citizen, J.K., born in 1981, on charges of illegal possession and importation of large amounts of narcotic and psychotropic substances into Georgia.
The authorities on Monday said the suspect was detained at the Sarpi border crossing. A search of his person and luggage revealed a significant quantity of drugs, including 979 tablets of MDMA and 47 capsules containing pregabalin.
The crime carries penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
