Police officers from the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested two citizens of Ukraine on charges related to the illegal acquisition and possession of particularly large quantities of narcotics as part of a group, as well as facilitating the illegal distribution of drugs.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, law enforcement officers conducted searches of the suspects’ persons and temporary residence in the city of Zugdidi. During the operation, police seized 625 individually packaged units of the narcotic substance methadone, allegedly prepared for distribution.
The seized drugs were collected as evidence in the ongoing criminal investigation.
The charges carry penalties ranging from up to 20 years in prison to life imprisonment if convicted.
