Moldovan citizen arrested in Georgia for drug trafficking

Officers from the Operative and Investigative Divisions of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department, under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, have arrested a citizen of the Republic of Moldova on drug-related charges following a joint operational and investigative effort.

According to the Ministry, the suspect, identified as E.G., born in 1985, is accused of the illegal purchase, possession, and preparation for the sale of a particularly large quantity of narcotic substances.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

During searches of the suspect’s person, vehicle, temporary residence, and an additional location he indicated, law enforcement seized a particularly large amount of methadone, packaged into 91 individual parcels.

Police also recovered an electronic scale, adhesive tapes, and cash as evidence during the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Articles 260, Part 6, Subparagraph “a,” and 18-260, Part 7, Subparagraph “a” of the Georgian Criminal Code, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
