Police said the substances recovered included methadone, marijuana and 56 tablets containing a psychotropic substance

Police in western Georgia have arrested a previously convicted man on suspicion of illegally purchasing and possessing large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Officers from the Chkhorotsku District Division of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department carried out the arrest in Zugdidi.

Investigators said a search of the suspect led to the seizure of a particularly large quantity of drugs that had allegedly been prepared for distribution.

Police said the substances recovered included methadone, marijuana and 56 tablets containing a psychotropic substance.

If convicted, the defendant could face up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
