Foreign national arrested in western Georgia for possession of large quantity of drugs

Police in Georgia’s Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region have detained a foreign national on charges of illegal possession and facilitation of distribution of a large quantity of narcotics, the Interior Ministry announced on Thursday.
Officers from the regional detective and investigative units carried out joint operations and arrested E.B., a 25-year-old Ukrainian citizen, in Zugdidi Municipality, the Ministry added.
During the operation, law enforcement seized a particularly large amount of methadone-containing granules and powder that had been prepared for sale.
The suspect was taken into custody on the spot. If convicted, the offence is punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
The Ministry said investigative activities were continuing.
