A government coordination commission chaired by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze will examine prices of food products, medicines and fuel, following a decision taken at its first meeting held on Monday at the government administration.
According to the government administration, commission members discussed an action plan for the coming weeks, including meetings with producers, retail chains and distribution companies. The commission will work in coordination with a relevant parliamentary committee and is expected to complete its work by the end of April.
Officials said the public would be provided with detailed information on the real cost of products, how prices are formed and where price mark-ups are deemed illogical. Commission members expressed hope that prices could begin to decrease during the course of the work.
The commission includes the ministers of economy, agriculture, health and finance, as well as the head of the State Security Service, the head of the government administration and the chair of the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency.
