Matthew Miller, the US Department of State Spokesperson, on Friday claimed imposing sanctions on Otar Partskhaladze, the former Prosecutor General under the Georgian Dream authorities in 2013, for his alleged links with Russia would not make “any changes” in bilateral ties.
“In the last 30 years, the US and Georgia have become strategic partners, working together for a Georgia that will be fully integrated into the Euro-Atlantic family. None of the sanctions imposed by us on an individual person can change this vision in our relations”, he said.
The US imposed sanctions on more than 150 individuals and legal entities in connection with Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine, Partskhaladze among them.
Shalva Papuashvili, the Georgian Parliament Speaker, on Friday said Partskaladze had had “no connection” with state structure over the past 10 years and had become the first Georgian individual sanctioned by the US.
