Transparency International Georgia member Sandro Baramidze has warned that the Georgian government was growing “increasingly desperate” as civil protests against its decision last year to halt EU integration until 2028 continue across the country. Baramidze claimed authorities had lost patience and are resorting to intimidation tactics to suppress dissent.

“They have lost patience because the civil protests are not stopping. This is getting on their nerves,” Baramidze said. He accused the government of using threats of imprisonment to discourage public demonstrations.

Baramidze further claimed that the ruling authorities were taking unlawful measures to maintain power. “Imprisonment for up to three years has a chilling effect, and they are using this to scare people. They no longer know how to protect themselves or how to intimidate the public into submission. But it will not work. We will not back down,” he asserted.
