Irakli Bebua, who was unlawfully detained by the occupation regime, is now free and has returned to the territory controlled by the central government.

Bebua was sentenced to nine years in prison in occupied Abkhazia, but his actual period of illegal detention lasted four years and six months.

During this time, efforts to secure his release, monitor his health condition, and address other relevant issues were actively pursued. The EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) hotline mechanism, as well as all available negotiation and communication tools at the central government’s disposal, were utilized.

“The Georgian government continues to work actively to secure the release of all Georgian citizens who remain illegally imprisoned in the occupied territories,” Georgia’s State Security Service stated.
