A Georgian parliamentary delegation led by Deputy Speaker Nino Tsilosani has held a series of meetings with senior Canadian parliamentarians and senators during an official visit to Canada.
The delegation's first meeting was with Robert Morrissey, chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.
Discussions focused on sharing experience in social policy and exploring opportunities for closer institutional cooperation. Members of the Georgian delegation attending the meeting included Mariam Lashkhi, Victor Sanikidze and Salome Kurasbediani.
The delegation also met Peter M. Boehm, chair of the Senate Foreign Affairs and International Trade Committee, and Deputy Chair Peter Harder.
Talks centred on geopolitical challenges, regional security and economic cooperation. According to the parliament's press service, Georgian representatives briefed Canadian senators on ongoing reforms, democratic institutions and progress towards European integration.
The delegation said bilateral relations should be based on objective assessments, measurable facts and internationally recognised indicators, arguing that Georgia continues to maintain strong positions in a number of international rankings.
During the visit, the delegation also held a working meeting with Senator Marilou McPhedran, where discussions focused on parliamentary diplomacy and issues related to women's empowerment.
The Georgian parliament said the visit is aimed at strengthening political and economic ties between Georgia and Canada and advancing bilateral cooperation.
