Georgian opposition members discuss EU prospects with German Bundestag delegation

Members of the Georgian parliamentary opposition, Anna Natsvlishvili, Ana Buchukuri, Herman Szabó, Khatuna Samnidze, and Tamar Kordzaia,on Friday with speakers from the German Bundestag’s Foreign Relations Committee visiting Georgia.

During the meeting, the attendees reviewed the pre-election environment and discussed the associated challenges. Szabó, a member of the Girchi political group, emphasized that the primary message conveyed was the concern that the government’s current stance and political approaches towards the West “could jeopardize Georgia’s prospects for joining the European Union”. He noted that the German delegation was keen to understand the opposition’s perspective on the coalition government and potential areas of cooperation.

Buchukuri, a member of the For Georgia political group, highlighted that the German representatives reaffirmed their support for Georgia and its people. Buchukuri stressed, “the German Bundestag representatives recognize the complexities of the current situation.

Despite the government’s anti-Western rhetoric and attacks on German officials, Germany remains committed to supporting Georgia and its people.”
