Procession to Patriarch Ilia II’s cathedral begins in Tbilisi

A procession is taking place to transfer the body of His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, from the Patriarchal Residence to the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi, the Georgian Orthodox Church has announced.

According to the Church’s communications service, the procession on foot began at 16:00 local time.

The Patriarch, who served as the head of the Georgian Orthodox Church for decades, passed away on 17 March at the age of 93.
