Police seize large quantity of narcotics in Georgia’s Black Sea resort city of Batumi

Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs on Saturday reported that patrol police officers had seized a large quantity of narcotics in the country’s Black Sea resort city of Batumi and detained a suspect.

The body added officers from the regional police department detained a Ukrainian citizen on charges of illegally acquiring and possessing an especially large quantity of narcotics, as well as facilitating their illegal sale.

During a search of the suspect’s personal belongings and temporary residence in Batumi, patrol inspectors seized an especially large amount of the narcotic drug mephedrone as evidence. Police also confiscated materials used for packaging narcotics.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
