Two previously convicted individuals have been arrested in Tbilisi on charges of illegally acquiring, possessing and facilitating the distribution of particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, Georgia's Interior Ministry said on Monday.

Officers from the Tbilisi Main Division of the Patrol Police Department seized particularly large quantities of various narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances during searches of the suspects and a residential property in the capital.

The substances recovered included mephedrone, methadone, MDMA, clephedrone, dried marijuana and ketamine.

Police also confiscated materials allegedly used for packaging narcotic substances.

The offences are punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
