Police in Tbilisi have arrested four people on charges related to the illegal possession of large quantities of narcotic drugs and facilitating their distribution, Georgia’s Interior Ministry has said.

According to the ministry, officers from the Patrol Police Department’s Tbilisi Main Division detained two Georgian nationals, both previously convicted - a man born in 1972 identified as I.B. and another born in 1994 identified as A.B. Two Indian citizens, born in 2003 and 2001 and identified as A.T. and S.M., were also arrested.

The suspects were stopped at different times and locations in the capital for routine checks, patrol inspectors said.

During personal searches and examinations at one of the locations, police seized particularly large quantities of narcotic substances packaged for sale, including alpha-PVP and methadone. Materials allegedly used for drug packaging were also confiscated.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260 and 260⁴ of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which cover the illegal acquisition, storage and facilitation of the sale of narcotic drugs.

If convicted, the defendants face up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment, the Interior Ministry said.
