Police seize drugs, including nearly 31kg of cannabis plants, in Georgian capital

Tbilisi Patrol Police officers in Georgia’s capital city have detained four people on charges related to the illegal possession and attempted possession of large quantities of narcotic substances, facilitating drug sales, and the illegal cultivation of drug-containing plants.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs on Saturday said the detainees include both Georgian and foreign nationals.

During searches of the suspects’ homes, vehicles and other locations, police seized large quantities of narcotic substances, including methadone, nearly 31 kilograms of cannabis plants and dried marijuana.

Law enforcement officers also discovered materials used for packaging drugs and specially equipped greenhouses where, according to the investigation, the suspects were cultivating large quantities of narcotic plants.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
