Azerbaijani citizen detained in Georgia for drug crimes

The suspect has been accused of illegal possession and storage of narcotic substances in especially large quantities and facilitation of drug distribution

Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has detained a citizen of Azerbaijan on charges of large-scale drug offenses, the ministry announced on Thursday.
Officers from the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Main Division of the Patrol Police Department arrested E.A., born in 1981, following a series of coordinated operational and investigative measures, the MIA press office said.
The suspect has been accused of illegal possession and storage of narcotic substances in especially large quantities and facilitation of drug distribution - crimes that are punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment under Georgian law.
During searches of the suspect’s person and residence, police seized 42 packages of the narcotic substance methadone, which have been submitted as evidence.
