Georgian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Tea Maisuradze, has emphasized that Georgia’s EU integration is an irreplaceable path, especially in the face of Russian occupation.

Writing on social media, Maisuradze reaffirmed her commitment to Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, citing the national interest and constitutional priorities as the Governmnet on Thursday announced the halt of EU accession talks until 2028.

“For many years, my fellow diplomats and I have been sparing no effort on Georgia’s path to EU and NATO membership… Today, when more than 20 percent of our country’s territory is occupied by Russia, special importance is attached to deepening and strengthening relations with our Western friends,” Maisuradze wrote.

Protests erupted across the country on Thursday, with citizens gathering from early morning to condemn the move.

By nightfall, riot police dispersed the demonstrations, leaving over 20 journalists injured—two of whom required surgery—and arresting 43 people.
